Finish your "Inspired by..." projects. You don't need to print this, but you do need to turn in:
( ) a JPG image of the inspiration piece
( ) a 612 X 792 pixel* JPG image of your inspired piece
( ) your final Illustrator file
* this is 8.5 X 11 at 72ppi. Use File>Save for Web and Devices...
For Fri (5/23)
Finish, print and mount Assignment 04: THE TEXTURE VERSION HAS BEEN CANCELED. There are now only 3 components:
( ) one drawing on paper (scan and print it if you don't want to mount the original)
( ) one drawing executed in Illustrattor
( ) one drawing executed in Photoshop
All images must be printed and mounted on black mat board for presentation. You can either compose all three of your illustrations on an 11x17 page, or print each illustration individually (must be at least 8x8 if printed separately).
For Fri (5/16) Continue working on Assignment 04. In class you will do brief work-in-progress presentations of your initial drawing and one of your digital images (Illus or Pshop, it's up to you). Also bring image files of your textures or materials that you want to scan.
For Fri (5/9)
Complete your Park Sketch illustration (Assignment 03). Do one version of it in Illustrator, and one version of it in Flash. Print your favorite one in color for critique. If you want to print the Flash illustation, I suggest bringing the artwork into Illustrator and printing it from Illustrator. To do this, either drag your artwork from the Flash window into an Illustrator window, or export the drawing (File>Export>Export Image...) in Illustrator format.

With the possible exception of uploading the files, Assignment 01 must be complete by the beginning of class on Tue. If you have troubles uploading your files to the OLS server, we will trouble-shoot that at the beginning of class Tuesday.
If you are feeling inclined to do some research into more HTML than we are covering in class, please read this Bad Tags article first. It answers a lot of those questions like "Why should I be using <em> instead of <i>?" Many online references are out-of-date, and may present HTML that is incorrect for this class.
I recommend the HTML Dog and W3 Schools references linked-to on the class page.

( ) Construct a blank, plain-paper mockup of your booklet format.
( ) Create digital mockups of your page layouts (in Illustrator, InDesign or Photoshop). These should be what the pages will look like, not what you will be printing.
( ) Work on creating your page layouts in InDesign.

( ) Bring: scissors, cutting mat, x-acto, straight edge, tape, pencils, erasers, glue (PVA (white glue), or rubber cement, not spray mount)
( ) Bring all necessary content for your portfolio leave-behind project.
( ) FIELDTRIP: We will be meeting at Paper Depot at 9:00 am, then going to the MCBA. We will return to the classroom around 11:00. Remember who you are riding with! If your transportation falls through, meet me at the front doors f the school at 8:30 and we will head over there together.

( ) The reading assignment is pages 95-117 in Exploring Publication Design. It is on reserve in the Library.
( ) Complete the first draft of your Main_Frame layout. You do not have all of the content yet, so use placeholder text where necessary. Grids, style sheets, and identity elements should be in place. We will work on this for the first hour of class and then present PDFs for a work-in-progress critique.
